*marmot pops head out of burrow*

*marmot blinks*

*marmot trundles around happily, seeing no trace of shadow*

Ignore Punxsutawney Phil and those other posers. The one and only Vancouver marmot predicts an early spring.

Wow, 18 comments on the donate-teh-fud post and later posts so far - that's a lot of cans! I did my first grocery fud-bank run today and bought 17 cans (I miscounted, sigh), mostly those thick hearty soups (they were on sale - $4 for 2!), plus some beans, chili, tuna, and salmon. I know I need to get a bunch more because lots of the comments on the HIV post came after the fud post, plus I'm confident people will continue to comment, but am very happy with the cannage so far.

So, added incentive - if you want to me to donate a particular type of food, please let me know in this post and I'll make sure I get it! Keep in mind I'm a student with massive tuition working half-time, so I would appreciate it if you chose stuff on the less-expensive, but still nutritious side. As an added incentive, if you wish I will give you a totally unscientific, pseudo-psychological, faux-Jungian, eerily accurate personality profile of you based on your food choice - make sure to request this in the comment if you want it.

CANS! Awesome xmas meme of giving goodness

Dec. 5th, 2008 | 03:06 pm

Stolen from arwenoid, and you should steal it too, as well as commenting on her blog*

For every comment left between today and next Friday on any post (preferably not just this one, but that’s fine too), I will donate one can of food to the food bank. Delicious, nutritious cans! This is extra easy for me since I've got a handy food bank bin right in my office.

So go on, start commenting! Feel free to comment on more than one post to max out your cannage.

*if your comment on arwenoid's blog is blatantly mocking her fear of going to her partner's Xmas party based on this post, post a link to your mocking comment here and I'll match that with yet another can of food

Get makeup! Learn about HIV!

Dec. 1st, 2008 | 10:25 am

Due to a last minute volunteer replacement issue, I'm going to be at MAC in Metrotown from 12 - 4 today for World AIDS Day handing out pretty flyers and giving information about BC Persons with AIDS. If I get there early enough I get a FREE makeover! Plus, BCPWA gave me 3 (!) free coupons for delicious fancy starbucks new christmas drinks (gingersnap, expresso truffle or peppermint mocha) so if you do come visit and are craving caffeine, I might give you one in exchange for a coffee run.

No purchase necessary. Coupons limited if marmots drink all the coffee before you arrive.

Trans Day of Remembrance

Nov. 20th, 2008 | 10:44 am

Today is the Transgender Day of Remembrance. Please take some time to remember the people killed in the last year as a result of prejudice and hatred against trans people.

We remember you

renting hell

Sep. 24th, 2008 | 02:37 pm

I've seen a few posts from people having trouble renting in Vancouver these days. I am sending good rental karma out to those who need it because I know how stressful it is.

However, I am also curious and pose this question to all readers - how are rental prices in your corner of the world? Specifically, what's an average price for a one bedroom apartment in your area? I'm in Fairview area of Vancouver and Craigslist tells me that one bedrooms are in the $1200-$1700 range. This reflects a fairly steep increase in rent over the last 10 years.

Outside Vancouver and Canada responses are welcome too.
